Georgia is an important stop on the Silk Road and traces of ancient caravans are still visible. The ancient capital – Mtskheta is home to the country’s holiest sites while the capital, Tbilisi is known for the diverse architecture and labyrinthine cobblestone streets.
A landlocked country, Armenia boasts a history longer than most European countries. It is the first country in the world to adopt Christianity as a state religion. Armenia is also the Land of Noah, depicting that Noah’s Ark came to rest on Mount Ararat, which at that time was still officially part of Armenia.
Lying next to the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, is perhaps the most avant-garde. Baku, the capital, houses the modern elegance of the Flame Towers along with its medieval UNESCO listed old city. A short drive lies Gobustan where an astonishing collection of over 6000 ancient petroglyphs dating back tens of thousands of years. Mud volcanoes and the ever-burning fire at a Zoroastrian Temple and the natural gas burning site that’s been burning since 1950s at Yanar Dag on the Absheron Peninsula, gave Azerbaijan its name as the land of fire.
